Supplements have become a part and parcel of our current lives, and a lot of people are into muscle building supplements as well. It sounds too easy—do some basic workouts each day, eat a healthy diet and pop the supplement pill and you will have a body like the great Schwarzenegger. But is it really that simple? Do these bodybuilding supplements always work and do they work for everyone?
The Ingredients
You have to pay your first attention on the ingredients that the supplement uses. Since you are looking at building muscle, it is highly important that the supplement must have a high amount of protein. But now, protein is available in various forms. Note that pure protein is one of the foulest tasting substances. That is the reason protein needs to be blended with other nutrients. Flavors are added as well. Have a dietitian tell you what a good muscle building composition would be. For a safe choice, you could stick to whey protein supplements.
The Possible Side-Effects
You need to be aware of possible side-effects. These could range from nausea and excessive drowsiness to giddiness and actual fainting. At the slightest occurrence of any side-effect, stop using the muscle building supplement. Change over to another brand. That is the reason you should always begin with small measures of these supplements.
The Effectiveness
Since there are such a lot of protein muscle building supplements out there and since everyone’s bodily composition is so different from the other, it is highly important that you do some research and find a product that will be really effective for you. However, at the same time, you shouldn’t expect overnight gains. Your body will respond but slowly. Also, you have to live a healthy lifestyle overall. You cannot become lax on your workouts with the justification that you are pumping yourself with supplements now. That won’t work.
The Source
To some extent, the source from where you get your supplements also matters. The most genuine sources are the doctors’ clinics (yes, you can find bodybuilding supplements there, or at least get recommendations) and gyms. Ask your coach for a recommendation. You may also shop online, but then you will have to be very discerning. However, the best part about shopping online is that you can get good bargains and then there are various forums where you can ask questions about any product and read other people’s reviews on them. Also, make sure to read about other people’s experiences on bodybuilding, which is sure to give you a lot of tips and pointers.

I am 6′3″ and 175lbs and have been lifting off and on for a few years. I’ve determined that I really need to add some supplements to my diet in order to add muscle as muscle building isn’t easy for me. I think my lean body type is hereditary as my grandfather had the same build as me his entire life. I tried creatine and don’t like how it makes me feel. What are some other options for me? I really want to to get into a serious routine and make dramatic changes over the next year or two. Thanks in advance.

I want to start p90x (i’m 14) and I want to know whether I will still get results without all of those supplements and protien shakes (including the diet, meaning I’ll eat healthy but won’t follow the one in the book). Thanks
