Question about building lean muscle and diet?

 

I have read different publications on this. Some say to do heavy weight with a low number of reps, others said to do light weight with a high number of reps. Which one is better for building lean muscle?Also, what is the best diet for lean muscle? I am drinking 3 liters of water a day and have restricted my diet to 1500 calories. And finally, is there a supplement that I should be taking with my workout? BSN Syntha-6? BSN Atro-Phex? Has anyone tried these and have they worked? Thanks for all the answers and your opinions.
